Stayntouch PMS and Stayntouch Guest Kiosk/Mobility's ID scanning and facial recognition offer an additional layer of assurance for your property, while also making the check-in process more convenient for your guests. This FAQ answers some of the more common questions surrounding the requirements, setup, and use of the ID scanning/facial recognition feature.

 

What devices are needed to utilize ID scanning/facial recognition?

 

Stayntouch Guest Kiosk: Minimum IOS 11 iPad. We recommend the latest IOS version.

 

Stayntouch Guest Mobility: An IOS or Android-based smartphone with a decent quality camera.

 

Stayntouch PMS Front Desk: Desktop or Minimum IOS 11 iPad. We recommend the latest version.

  • If you are using a desktop, you must use an 8MP minimum, USB document camera.

 

What's the minimum camera resolution needed?

 

8MP minimum.

 

What camera should I use for desktop scanning?

 

For desktop ID scanning, we recommend an 8MP minimum, USB document camera. The application has been optimized using the cameras listed below.

  • IPEVO V4K Ultra High Definition USB Document Camera
  • IPEVO 5-883-4-01-00 VZ-R HDMI/USB Dual Mode 8MP Document Camera

 

What camera on the device will be used to scan the guest ID?

 

Stayntouch Guest Kiosk: On an iPad, the ID must be scanned and captured from the rear camera. The system will prompt the guest to position their ID at the rear of the device, where the camera is positioned.

 

Stayntouch Guest Mobility: On an Android or IOS smartphone, the user must capture their ID using the rear camera (similar to a mobile bank deposit).

 

What camera on the device will be used to capture facial recognition?

 

Stayntouch Guest Kiosk: On an iPad, the front camera must be used to capture facial recognition.

 

Stayntouch Guest Mobility: On an Android or IOS smartphone, the front camera must be used to capture facial recognition.

 

What if my tablet is mounted to a wall with the rear camera blocked off?

 

If you would like to use ID scanning via an iPad for your Stayntouch Guest Kiosk, your kiosk must be freestanding so that guests can place their ID in front of the rear camera.

 

Where is the ID image stored? And for how long?

 

The ID image is stored on the physical server until 30 days after check-out. The ID is encrypted and only accessible from the application by a login user. If you require the ID images to be stored longer, you can set up archival transfer following the steps here.

 

Where in Stayntouch PMS is the information from the ID visible?

 

The information can be accessed in the stay card and the guest card. The ID is encrypted and only accessible from the application by a login user.

 

What information from the ID is captured and accessible in Stayntouch PMS?

 

Guest first and last name, ID number, date of birth, and ID expiration date.

 

Can I choose to activate or deactivate the ID scanning and facial recognition feature?

 

Once configured, you can manage activation of both ID scanning and facial recognition within Stayntouch PMS by signing in as a Hotel Admin user and navigating to Settings > Hotel & Staff > ID Collection.

 

Will the captured information update the name and address information in Stayntouch PMS?

 

Because names and addresses on identification documents are frequently not up-to-date or may differ for other reasons, the information captured from ID scanning is not used to modify any data in Stayntouch PMS.
