While using a gift card for payment in Rover Standalone, the user received an error message that reads 'Gift System Disabled'.
If this error appears, then the property is trying to swipe/collect payment via a gift card. However, the error is occurring becuase the property is NOT configured with Givex (a gift card processing interface).
- Verify that your property is NOT using the Givex interface.
- If the property does not use Givex and receives this message, there is a simple solution:
Create a new "Gift Card" payment method type and name it something else, like Gift Card (not Givex). See example below:
But Wait! Why is This Happening?
Explanation: By default, when a new property is created, there are certain payment methods that are already pre-configured in Rover. Those payment types include: Cash, Credit Card, and Gift Cards. These will be denoted with a (system defined) note beside the payment method (see the screenshot above).
To avoid issues with system defined payment methods, create a new payment method for the particular gift card the property uses.
